Dallas Willard - Blessing and Commitment
The Lord bless you, and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine on you,
and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance on you,
and give you peace.
(Numbers 6:24-26)

Dallas Willard says we want to be points of constant blessing moving out to everyone around us. So he used this closing session of the 2013 Knowing Christ conference to engaging the audience in the practice of blessing. Join in as Dallas teaches us how to give and (even more difficult) to receive a blessing.
"To bless someone is to will their good under the invocation of God." Dallas Willard

Dallas Willard - The Soul Series - Part 3 - Prayer: A Working Relationship with God
Переглядів 12 тис.6 місяців тому
Dallas Willard concludes The Soul Series with this sermon about prayer as a way of doing business with God. Dallas makes several points about prayer: • We pray because it is the way persons work together. People work together by talking and communicating. And God is a person. • We pray because if we don't pray, good things that could happen will not, and bad things that should not happen will h...

Dallas Willard- Holiness, Divine Presence & Divine Power - John 14

Dallas Willard walks us through chapter 14 of the Gospel of John to help us understand what Jesus taught his disciples about holiness and the presence of the Holy Trinity in their lives. - Holiness is something that begins in us at the new birth, but needs to be completed. There are things we need to do. This will either feel impossible or easy. - God wants us to become the kind of people that ...

Is holiness necessary? Is it good for you? Dallas Willard says many people think that modern holiness is about dressing in a certain way or associating with certain people, but being holy means being from another realm; “being in the world but not of it,” an inward unity with God. - We have to move to the inner sources of behavior to understand holiness in terms of external practices. - Everyon...

    Amazing message. But did Jesus or the disciples say or show we should be silent before God. My spirit says Dallas is spot on. But I see the biblical progression... Pray in upper room then holy spirit comes and they become "noisy" and go out to change the world. What you guys think? And I think that the reason why Dallas used that verse women remain silent is because there was no other verse in the NT. And he used it out of context.

    Do you really want the public schools teaching kids they’re spiritual beings ? When all those liberal teachers teach them New Age spirituality ? On what basis will Christians THEN say no we don’t want that. The Founders were WISE to require the State to be neutral on religion, in the 1st Amendment.

  • @CasperLCat

    So Dallas thought Dark Matter was the physical presence of God, holding the universe together. What happens to his God if science actually DETECTS that matter as physical stuff ? This kind of thing HAS happened over and over since the Scientific Revolution of the 17th Century. Your God, who (you suppose) lives in the gaps in human knowledge, shrinks as our knowledge expands.

  • @CasperLCat
    @CasperLCat 3 дні тому

    Beginning at 46:25, Dallas has a lot to say about science and the supposed wrong beliefs of some scientists, but he starts by making a HUGE scientific blunder, saying that when you burn wood or gas you “turn matter into energy”. NO, you DON’T. You just release the energy bound up in the prior organization of that matter. If you collect all the ash, particles and gas from a wood fire, they will weigh EXACTLY the same as the wood ! It takes a nuclear fission or fusion reaction, like the Hiroshima bomb, or the Sun, respectively, to actually convert matter into energy according to Einstein’s equation. So much Christian criticism of “science” comes from people like Dallas who are full of unproven theological and philosophical ideas, but who just don’t know the nuts and bolts of the science that they’re trying to talk about. Don’t ask me to CARE about their sweeping criticisms of science or scientists.

    The audience was ready to giggle and take more lightly things that Dallas was not joking about. He says it in a way that makes it seems comical that we could misunderstand some of these truths of the scripture, but really it is quite somber when someone misunderstands…

    “Spirit is not bodily” ? Really, Dallas ? All the evidence of daily life, and neuroscience, demonstrates that what you call spirit, IS a function of the physical brain. Change the brain, you change the spirit of a person. Temporarily, in the case of a drunk person. Permanently, in the case of brain damage. Google the case of Phineas Gage.

    This is an Eric Metaxas event, who’s an apologist for that immoral sociopathic criminal, Trump. He’s part of a cult of “Christian” nationalist bullies. That’s profoundly irrational, and just plain wicked. In fact, Metaxas physically assaulted a Trump heckler on the street outside a White House event he’d attended. It’s partly caught on YT video, with his wife audibly crying out “Eric” in alarm at her husband’s behavior. That’s not the fruit of ACTUAL reason, or true spirituality.

    What he says about Jesus is just silly. Jesus was a human being as well as divine. Why should He necessarily be the greatest mathematician ? Did He demonstrate mathematical genius, ever ? Was he the physically strongest man ? The most handsome ? (No, per Isaiah 53). He got tired, he thirsted, he had to sleep. We’re told He GREW as a youth into certain virtues. Sure, he had ACCESS to supernatural power and knowledge, but as a human he didn’t walk around with it all the time.

    This is all just a bald ASSERTION that Christian dogma is true, without any objective DEMONSTRATION. Academic fields must have empirical methods of demonstrating ideas, which someone is claiming to be objective knowledge. An historian points to physical documents, dated from the period in question, that record that an event happened in the way he claims. How can any Christian OBJECTIVELY demonstrate, for example, that God exists and is composed of 3 persons ? Can they say a prayer to that being which RELIABLY produces a miraculous result that alters physical reality in a measurable way ? Of course not. Muslim scholars think that they possess “knowledge” of Allah. How does the Christian scholar PROVE that Yahweh is God, not Allah ?

    Dallas, your Natural Law argument against the morality of homosexuality has already defeated itself, you just don’t know, or want to accept, the biological basis of male (at least) homosexuality. Not genetic, but biological. Read Wikipedia on the Older Brother Effect for the overwhelming evidence that being a gay male is as natural (given by Nature) as being left handed. The prenatal biochemical mechanisms are very similar.

    I've listened to your interviews with Dr. Willard. I have noticed he always had a reasonable response to every question you asked. I used to think he knew which questions were coming. I now think because he took Jesus into every thought and action of his life, he came, over time, to be able to answer the questions we all as asking and relevant to living. While age is a hot topic, it takes a while of living as an apprentice of Jesus to be able to work Jesus' words into every "nook and cranny". Thank you for this video, John. I feel it is one of the best presentations of life transformation you've ever given.
